A magnetic tape apparatus should be understood to mean any apparatus in which signals, data or information in analogue and/or digital form are recorded on a magnetic tape and/or are read from the latter. The head drum works on the principle of an active scanner, i.e. the amplifiers allocated to the write/read heads rotate with the rotating upper cylinder of the head drum. This object is achieved by virtue of the fact that the means for compensating an unbalance is provided in the hold-down (P) holding the information medium on the disc turntable. The device for unbalance compensation is an autobalancer which is provided in the hold-down (P) and is formed by a circularly running groove (H), containing compensating means (A), in the hold-down (P). The diameter of the groove (H) running in a circle is preferably greater than the inside scanning diameter of the information medium (IT), and discs or balls are used as compensating means (A). The field of application of the invention extends to recording or reproducing units with means for compensating the unbalance of plate-shaped information media such as, for example, CD ROM or DVD drives.
