摘要: A computer aided surgery system (170), method, surgical method and instrument (300) for guiding the positioning of an acetabular cup in a pelvis are described. The position of the transverse acetabular ligament of the pelvis and the position of the acetabular labium of the pelvis are determined. The orientation of an acetabular plane including the acetabular labrum and the transverse acetabular ligament is calculated. A planned position for the acetabular cup is determined, in which an inlet plane of the cup is substantially parallel to the acetabular plane. The instrument comprises a mounting for attaching the instrument to a patient, a support (302), a guide (306) defining a longitudinal axis, and for receiving a further instrument bearing the acetabular cup implant, and an adjustment mechanism (320). The adjustment mechanism can allow the angular orientation of the guide to be adjusted about at least two different axes to allow the inclination and version or anteversion of the longitudinal axis to be altered.

摘要: A drill guide assembly for determining the axis for drilling a bore to receive a component of an orthopaedic joint prosthesis, includes a drill guide (14) having a sleeve (16) and a bulb (18) at one end of the sleeve (16). A frame (6), which can be fastened to the bone, includes a housing (22) which defines a recess (20) in which the drill guide bulb (18) can be received with the drill guide sleeve (16) extending out of the recess (20), in a direction away from the bone, so that the angular orientation of the drill guide sleeve (16) relative to the housing (22) can be adjusted by movement of the bulb (18) within the recess (20). The drill guide can be locked relative to the housing against angular adjustment by a clamp which comprises a lower pair of clamping surfaces provided by the drill guide bulb and the internal wall of the recess respectively, and an upper pair of clamping surfaces on the drill guide and the housing respectively.

A driving device (13) can engage the implant carrier to move the carrier (12) along the track. A formation can cause the connector (15) on the implant carrier (12) to be displaced from the connected to the disconnected position when the carrier reaches a pre-determined position.
