    摘要: An air bag assembly for cushioning restraint of an occupant in a vehicle during an impact event. The air bag assembly includes an inflator (40) activatable to discharge inflation gas upon the occurrence of predetermined vehicle conditions and an air bag cushion (20) in fluid communication with the inflator (40) such that upon discharge of inflation gas from the inflator the air bag cushion (20) is inflated to a deployed state from a location of deployment in substantially opposing relation to the occupant. One or more profile restraining tether elements (30) extend from locations on the air bag cushion to an anchor structure (48) so as to shorten the operative length of the profile restraining tether elements. An actuation mechanism (36) activatable in response to a signal from a sensor measuring occupant conditions is used to release the tether elements (30) from the anchor structure (48) thereby extending the operative profile of the air bag cushion (20) upon the occurrence of predetermined occupant conditions.
    The air bag assembly further comprises an actuatable variable inflation device to control the amount of inflation gas discharged into the air bag cushion, wherein the actuatable variable inflation device comprises a vent blocking member (85) alignable with a vent opening (43) within a housing (42) in which the inflator is disposed, the vent blocking member being moveable relative to the vent opening upon activation of the actuation mechanism (36) thereby adjusting the effective venting area of the vent opening.

    摘要: An air bag module (10) includes an air bag (27) and an inflator (30) being activatable to discharge inflator gas for inflating the air bag. The inflator has at least one discharge port (31) through which inflator gas is discharged. A housing (20) includes at least one inflator vent opening (21) aligned with the discharge port. A variable inflation device (49) is mounted on the inflator and includes a movable member (50) alignable with the vent opening. The movable member is movable relative to the vent opening for opening and closing the vent opening at a predetermined time during inflator activation to control the amount of inflator gas discharged into the air bag and the amount of inflator gas expelled out through the vent opening of the housing. Preferably, the variable inflation device includes an initiator device (80) being activatable during activation of the inflator to move the movable member relative to the vent opening at the predetermined time during inflator activation.

    The air bag assembly further comprises an actuatable variable inflation device to control the amount of inflation gas discharged into the air bag cushion, wherein the actuatable variable inflation device comprises a vent blocking member (85) alignable with a vent opening (43) within a housing (42) in which the inflator is disposed, the vent blocking member being moveable relative to the vent opening upon activation of the actuation mechanism (36) thereby adjusting the effective venting area of the vent opening.
