Series of such elements can be connected together in strings to form a flexible heat-insulating screen. The finned form of the elements can be arranged to ensure that direct radiation paths through the screen are substantially blocked using relatively few overlapping layers of the elements.

摘要： For limiting heat loss from hot material such as steel bars and slabs between hot rolling operations, displaceable chambers (92 or 144) are provided for holding and transferring the hot material (S) between processing stages. The chamber forms a heat-insulating enclosure with one or both ends openable for the insertion and removal of the material. For use in existing rolling mills, the chamber (92) can be arranged to be displaced along the roller tables. Alternatively, the chamber (144) can be incorporated in a railcar (146) that moves between spaced stations (150,152) in the course of processing the material. Within the chamber, means (120 or 158, 160 or 178) are provided for holding the hot material spaced above the lower insulating wall.

摘要： The invention relates to screens for limiting heat losses from heated material, e.g. bars and slabs in rolling mills. Screens (20) are provided in the form of strings of heat insulating bodies composed of metal shells (32) containing insulating material (40). These screens may form curtains and/or covers (24) for the hot material. Containing chambers for the hot material may be provided with such strings of elements and the chambers may also comprise means for limiting heat conduction losses through the material supports therein. The screens may be collapsed over the hot material thereby completely surrounding and insulating the material from loss of heat. A displaceable chamber installation is also described for limiting heat loss when holding and transferring hot material between processing stages.
