摘要:
A ground anchor assembly (10) for a highway guardrail includes first and second spaced ground anchors (12, 14) and a connecting element (16) interconnected between the anchors (12, 14). An anchor cable (18) included in the guardrail assembly (10) is connected to the ground anchor assembly (10) adjacent the first ground anchor (12), and the second ground anchor (14) is situated farther from the central portion of the guardrail assembly (10) than the first ground anchor (12). In this way improved pull out resistance is provided.

A vehicle crash barrier (10) for decelerating a vehicle that has left a roadway includes an elongated frame having a number of sections (14, 16, 18) including a front section (14) and at least one additional section (16, 18) arranged end to end along an axial direction. The frame is configured to collapse when axially struck on the front section (14) by a vehicle. The front section is releasably secured to a ground anchor (80) by a directionally sensitive breakaway assembly (100). A wire cable (122) extends generally parallel to the frame and has a forward end portion anchored independently of the frame and a rearward end portion. Friction brakes (140) are mounted to the front section for engaging the wire cable (122) during collapse of the frame following impact of the vehicle against the front section (14). Each section includes a pair of side panels (42), and axially adjacent side panels are connected by a flexible tension strap (46) by fasteners (44). The tension strap (46) operates to peel the fasteners (44) out of the side panels (42) during axial collapse.

An energy absorbing roadside barrier (10) includes an elongate container (12) configured to receive and hold a volume of water. The container (12) defines a pair of sidewalls (14) having sufficient rigidity to stand alongside a roadway and sufficient resilience to deform upon an impact by a vehicle and to recover their shape after at least some impacts. The barrier (10) also includes an internal frame (38) positioned within the container (12). The frame (38) includes first and second axial braces (40) positioned adjacent respective sidewalls (14) of the container (12), and the axial braces (40) are secured together by at least one cross brace (42). The frame (38) and container (12) are formed of different materials, and the frame (38) increases the rigidity of the barrier (10) and strengthens the barrier (10) against bending.
