摘要: A fluid separation packing for distillation and fractionation columns or towers comprises a number of connected packing elements, suitably in the form of connected octagons, which have continuous side walls (16) with an upper end and a lower end which terminates in a base (14) with a vapor opening and a vapor tab (18) above the opening. The side walls define openings between adjacent packing elements and are connected to one another to define a contacting volume above the base, and there are liquid exit slits (34) on the side walls into downcomers which have side walls with their upper portions within the openings between adjacent packing elements, with openings in the lower portions of the downcomers supplying liquid into underlying packing elements.

摘要: A tray design for use in a separation column (2) for distilling or fractionating a feed stream is provided. Located on the trays (6) are a plurality of co-current vapor and liquid contacting sections (16). Also located on the trays are a plurality of de-entrainment devices (8) for separating entrained liquids from vapor stream, the de-entrainment devices having an inner (25) and an outer (27) side, the inner side (25) being adjacent to the co-current contacting sections. The tray design further incorporates a plurality of liquid downcomers (14), having an upper portion and a lower portion, where the upper portion is capable of accepting liquid from the outer side (27) of the de-entrainment device of a first tray, and the lower portion is located within the co-current contacting section of a second tray.

摘要: This concept concerns a vapor/liquid-contacting tray which is useful in distillation and related mass transfer or heat transfer applications where liquid flows down and gas or vapor flows up through a vessel. In this device, the perforated area (3) is relatively small, so the liquid is entrained upward. The liquid flow is then directed downward into a large disengaging area (5). The downward momentum of the liquid and the large disengaging allow for high liquid and vapor rates without overloading the vapor/liquid disengaging capacity of the device.

摘要: This invention is directed to a cyclonic vapor/liquid contacting device. Liquid feed (1) is introduced near the floor of the cyclone. Vapor (2) enters through sieve holes in the bottom of the cyclonic device. Near the floor are angled tabs or vanes that impart a spin to the vapor rising up through the floor. The tabs or vanes mix the liquid and vapor. The liquid is then thrown toward the cyclone wall (3) where it exits through slots (5) in the wall (3).
