The invention relates to a method for producing heterocylces of the formula (I) by the catalytic reaction of an aromatic dinitrile of the formula using an amino alcohol, characterized in that the amino alcohol and the catalyst are provided and the aromatic dinitrile is added at a reaction temperature, wherein any further solvent is dispensed with during the reaction, and subsequently the excess of amino alcohol is completely removed by distillation after completion of the reaction, wherein the reaction mixture is continuously moved and subsequently the catalyst is removed by means of washing utilizing alcohol.
