The invention relates to a method and a device for separating and purifying carboxylic acids from fermentation broths containing ammonium carboxylic acid salts, the method comprising the following steps, a) removing biomass and any solids present from the fermentation broth, b) producing a solution containing the desired carboxylic acid and an additional solution containing ammonium salts by performing simulated moving bed chromatography (SMB), c) ultra-purifying the solution containing the desired carboxylic acid from step b), d) concentrating the purified carboxylic acid solution from step c), e) crystalizing the concentrated carboxylic acid solution from step d), f) concentrating the additional solution containing ammonium salts from step b), characterized in that, in the concentration in steps d) and f), a combination of reverse osmosis and concentration by evaporation is performed and the vapor from the concentration by evaporation of step f) is fed into the concentration by evaporation from step d).
