摘要: Exhaust system for a spark ignition engine includes exhaust pipes (16) connected to engine exhaust manifolds and a catalytic converter (18) connected at one end to the exhaust pipe (20). An exhaust filter (30) is positioned upstream of the catalytic converter and a bypass control mechanism (56) directs gas towards and away from the exhaust filter. The filter condenses hydrocarbons, which are evaporated by passing exhaust gases to heat the filter in a second circuit.

摘要: An exhaust system for a spark ignition engine on an automotive vehicle including an exhaust filter (30) disposed downstream of a spark ignition engine for condensing hydrocarbons in exhaust gases from the engine during a first time period after start of the engine, a bypass structure (56, 58, 60, 66, 68, 70) for bypassing at least a portion of exhaust gases around the exhaust filter (30) to heat the exhaust filter during a second time period after the first time period and evaporate the condensed hydrocarbons, and a catalytic converter (18) disposed downstream of the exhaust filter (30) to oxidise the evaporated hydrocarbons and reduce NO X in exhaust gases passing therethrough.
