The present invention is to provide a method for treating an optical recording medium including irradiating a recording layer, which has recorded information, with a treatment light through a light diffusion member having a haze of 70% to 100%, wherein the optical recording medium contains at least the recording layer which records information using holography, and a device for treating an optical recording medium containing a light source for the treatment light, and the light diffusion member having a haze of 70% to 100% and disposed between the light source and the optical recording medium, wherein the recording layer is irradiated with the treatment light through the light diffusion member from the light source. The preferred aspects are that a half width of wavelength for an energy intensity of the treatment light is 5 nm to 700 nm; and the optical recording medium is a write-once read-many optical recording medium.

In an optical recording medium processing method, a recording layer wherein the information of an optical recording medium having at least a layer for recording the information is recorded by utilizing holography is irradiated with processing light passed through a light diffusion member having a cloudiness value of 70-100%. Equipment for processing an optical recording medium comprises an optical recording medium having at least a recording layer for recording the information by utilizing holography; a processing light source; and a light diffusion member having a cloudiness value of 70-100% interposed between the processing light source and the optical recording medium. The equipment irradiates the recording layer wherein the information is recorded with processing light passed trough the light diffusion member. Preferably, the half peak value of wavelength to the energy intensity of processing light is 5-700 nm, and the optical recording medium is write once (WORM) type.

In order to record an interference fringe pattern in a recording layer of a medium, a plurality of laser beams are caused to interfere so as to form interference fringes in the recording layer; and during a time period over which the plurality of laser beams are caused to interfere, the following steps are continuously performed: (1) producing a signal varying according to a shift of a specific position in the recording layer; and (2) shifting a fringe-forming position in the recording layer by changing a phase of at least one of the laser beams or moving the recording layer based upon the signal produced in the step (1).
