摘要:
An arterial needle removes blood from the access to an extracorporeal circuit comprising a dialyzer and a venous needle returns the blood to the access site. Blood passes along one side of the membrane of the dialyzer and dialysis fluid along the other side. The concentration (Cd norm and Cd rev) of urea in the dialysate emitted from the dialyzer is measured with the needles in the normal position and in a reversed position. The access flow rate before the arterial needle is calculated according to the formula: Cd norm / Cd rev = 1 + Keff/Qa in which Keff is the effective clearance of the dialyzer and Qa is the access flow rate.

A method and medical machine for calibrating a peristaltic pump (36, 39) intended to be used in connection with the medical machine, such as a dialysis machine. The machine comprises an internal fluid flow meter (18, 19). Fluid is introduced into the pump segment (36) and is pumped by the peristaltic pump at a substantially constant rotation rate. Three different inlet pressures are obtained and measured by a pressure meter (16) and the corresponding fluid flow is measured by the internal fluid flow meter (18, 19) for obtaining calibration pair values. A calibration curve is calculated from said calibration pair values by a computer (23) inside the medical machine. The actual fluid flow rate is determined by said computer (23) from said calibration curve based on the actual inlet pressure and the actual revolution rate of the propelling means.

Method and apparatus for calculating the concentration of a substance in blood of a mammal. Blood from the mammal is passed through a dialyser having a semipermeable membrane and a dialysing fluid is passed at the other side of the membrane. The concentration of urea cd is measured in the dialysate emitted from the dialyser and the dialysate fluid flow rate Qd. A disturbance is introduced in the dialyser whereupon the effective dialysance Ke of the dialyser is calculated. Finally, the concentration of urea in blood is calculated by the formula cpw = cd x Qd/Ke. By using the curve of urea concentration cd versus time in the dialysate, it is possible to calculate the initial mass m0 of urea in the blood. Finally, the distribution volume V of urea in the body of said mammal is calculated according to the formula V = m0/cpw.

The heart produces a pressure wave which passes via the blood vessel access (1, 14) and is sensed by a pressure detector (4, 15) on the other side of the blood vessel access. The signal obtained comprises interference signals which are separated via a processing arrangement (25) in order to obtain the pulse signal. Absence of the pulse signal indicates a malfunction in the blood vessel access. A blood pump in an extracorporeal blood circuit can be used as a pressure wave generator.
