The method further includes delaying the excitation of the ultrasonic sensor a dwell time T d after a reduction of the potential difference ΔV across the electrode and the workpiece occurs.

The airfoil stub (14) undergoes electrochemical machining to form an airfoil (18). The rough dovetail (32) then undergoes electrochemical discharge machining to form a rough tang (34). The rough tang (34) is finish machined to form a dovetail (20) extending from the airfoil (18) in a unitary rotor blade (12).
