A braking system including a torque tube (22) and a rotor-stator stack (27), wherein the torque tube at least partially deforms during braking. The torque tube includes a passage (52) formed in therein, and a displacement sensor (54) is placed with the passage, wherein the displacement sensor detects deformation of the torque tube. The signal can be used as a measure of actual braking torque applied to the one or more wheels. The braking system includes a wear compensator (60) that alters a torque arm of said displacement sensor (54) based on brake wear.
