摘要： The present invention is directed to a novel adjustable diameter hair curler (10) which is extremely lightweight, portable, and suitable for travel. The novel adjustable curler (10) includes a substrate (12) of a flexible material such as a plastic or fabric or backing material which may optionally include a thin spring steel lamination (26) for added resilience. The substrate has a first planar side (11) and a second planar side opposite said first planar side. Attached to the first side of the substrate are an array of hook-type elements from a hook and loop-type fastening system such as VELCRO3 brand hook and loop fasteners available from Velcro Industries of Manchester, New Hampshire. The hook-type elements are generally arrayed over the majority of the first side. Strips of engaging materials are provided on each side of the substrate to secure the adjustable curler (10) in a cylindrical form having a selected diameter. By rolling the substrate to form a cylinder so that a portion of the substrate overlaps another portion of the substrate, the engaging materials may interact to hold the cylinder's shape with relative ease and complete adjustability of cylinder diameter. Lock-in of the shape may be accomplished easily with a single hand. For storage, the curlers (10) may be completely flattened for storage or transport in a very minimal volume.

Hair to be styled is placed between the engaged surfaces. A plurality of pins extend from one of the surfaces and engage holes in the other of the surfaces. In another aspect of the invention, one or both surfaces may incorporate a source of dry heat. In yet another aspect of the invention, a source of stream is provided together with a trigger for discharging the stream through holes in at least one of the surfaces as an aid to hair styling.
