The invention relates to phosphate compounds which contain at least 50 wt.- % pentasodium triphosphate, less than 5 wt.- % sodium pyrophosphate and maximally 18 wt.- % water and which are present in the form of agglomerations from primary particles. Said phosphate compounds are excellent for use in washing or cleaning agents. The compounds are easily soluble and improve the solubility and the stability of washing and cleaning agents into which they are incorporated. The phosphate compounds are produced by agglomerating water-free, pulverized pentasodium triphosphate in a high-speed mixer with 12 to 28 wt.- % water, based on the pentasodium triphosphate content, and optionally other ingredients of washing and/or cleaning agents. The agglomerations obtained are dried immediately afterwards in a fluidized bed drier at a product temperature of below 60 °C to a free water content of less than 5 wt.- %.
