摘要:
A method of determining a registration offset in a hard copy apparatus, the apparatus comprising a pen arranged to mark a print medium and a sensor arranged to detect marks on the medium along a sensor path, the method comprising the steps of: marking a alignment pattern on the medium, the pattern being at least partially located along the sensor path; detecting the position along the sensor path of a portion of the pattern; and, determining a distance by which the pattern is offset from the sensor path in a direction substantially perpendicular to the sensor path, the pattern being configured such that the defected position is indicative of the offset distance.

A method of determining a registration offset in a hard copy apparatus (10), the apparatus comprising a pen arranged to mark a print medium (30) and a sensor (50) arranged to detect marks on the medium along a sensor path (65), the method comprising the steps of: marking an alignment pattern (61-64) on the medium, the pattern being at least partially located along the sensor path; detecting the position along the sensor path of a portion of the pattern; and, determining a distance by which the pattern is offset from the sensor path in a direction substantially perpendicular to the sensor path, the pattern being configured such that the detected position is indicative of the offset distance.

An optical sensor (80) for detecting the position of marks on a medium (84), wherein relative motion is provided between the optical sensor and the medium during an optical sensing operation. The optical sensor produces an electrical sensor signal (86A), and has a field of view at the media in a direction of the relative movement. The marks have a nominal dimension in the direction of the relative movement, and the field of view is larger than the nominal dimension. This produces a sensor signal with a clear and relatively sharp peak in response to scanning the media mark. A method of sensing locations of marks printed by ink-jet nozzles of a plurality of printheads mounted on a scanning carriage, which includes printing an alignment pattern (150) on a print medium, the alignment pattern comprising a set of target or reference marks printed using a subset of the nozzles on each of the plurality of printheads, and a set of color marks (170) printed using a subset of the nozzles from only one of the printheads.
摘要:
Printhead-to-platen spacing (PPS) variation (53) along a scan axis (17) is found by shining a light beam from pen carriage (12) to print-medium position (15) and back to detector (21,21'), and applying a pathlength/intensity correlation (44). Sensing is done while scanning, to find relative PPS profile (53) along the track. With no medium in place (Fig.4) this measures mechanical imperfections ― and can be corrected by later deducting thickness (t) of a medium (16). If medium is present (Fig.5), adjustment is omitted. For absolute values a plural-lamp (20',20") sensor is calibrated for each lamp, at the PPS design point (Fig.7). Pagewide/webwide variants are included.
