The invention relates to a device and an improved method for the chemical loop combustion of at least one liquid hydrocarbon feedstock, said method comprising: mixing the liquid feedstock with an atomisation gas for feeding the same into a metal oxide transport area (2) upstream from the combustion area (3) and through an atomisation means (6) so as to form finely dispersed liquid droplets in the atomisation gas; spraying the liquid feedstock in the form of droplets into contact with at least one portion of the metal oxides in the transport area (2), the operational conditions in the transport area (2) being selected so that the superficial speed of the gas after spraying the liquid feedstock is higher than the transport speed of the metal oxide particles; and feeding the entirety of the effluents from the transport area (2) towards a combustion area (3) for reducing the metal oxides, said combustion area (3) including at least one dense-phase fluidised bed.
