In the honeycomb structure, a pair of electrodes is arranged at the cell walls and/or a peripheral wall of the honeycomb unit, the cell walls of the honeycomb unit are composed of a ceramic aggregate and pores formed in the aggregate, and the cell walls contain a substance having an electrical resistivity lower than an electrical resistivity of ceramic forming the aggregate.
