The crests of the teeth of the wheels (78) and (79) are of a rounded section and the inker (71) is of a parallelepipedic shape, is of polyester fibres with external co-extrusion and contains an amount of ink such as to occupy only half the volume of the inker (71). The metering wick (72) is cylindrical and is of a longitudinal section of rhomboidal shape. The bunch of capillary filaments is formed by fibres olf elasticised nylon impregnated with phenol resin. The ends of the capillary filaments co-operate with the rounded crests of the teeth of the wheel (79) and the spring (73) acts upon the side surface of the capillary filaments to hold the ends of the filaments and the teeth of the wheel (79) in constant contact.

The printer includes a type wheel 61 inked by a removable inking roller 68 and selectively rotatable by a stepping motor, each time from the angular position of the previous printed character. A guiding roller 73 normally holds the envelope distanced from the type wheel 61 and is removed at a constant rate by an electromagnetic EM2 for causing the envelope to be printed under the bias of a springloaded pressure roller 79. In the interval between two subsequent character printing operations, the envelope is advanced one letter space, whereas the type wheel 61 has time to be rotated at least one complete revolution.

The apparatus comprises a reversible conveyor 13 disposed between a deflection station 23 and an access slot 14. The deflection station allows the dispensing of an empty envelope from a magazine 11 towards the conveyor and the deposition of an envelope containing valuables from the conveyor into a drawer 17. The apparatus further comprises a stamping device at an intermediate position along the length of the conveyor for printing data serially on the envelope during its transfer to the drawer. This is disposed in a safe and is of the sealed type, including two motor driven rollers 141, 142 for inserting the envelope into the drawer. The rollers can be locked in such a way as to close the access to the drawer when the drawer is open. The apparatus is controlled by a microprocessor in two way communication with a central control unit of the apparatus.
