摘要： A user of a remote computer accesses a target computer (e.g., the user's home PC) via the Internet. To initiate the protocol, the user launches an application which, via the Internet, sends a special request to the user's home e-mail address. If the home computer is not currently connected to the Internet, the user's Internet Service Provider (ISP) dials a telephone number for the home computer. The home computer automatically answers, and the ISP sends authentication information to the computer to establish an Internet connection. With the connection established, an IP address is sent back to the user, which can then be used to invoke X-10 functions, telnet sessions, or other activities with the target computer.

摘要： A method and apparatus for encoding transactions for goods and services using an e-receipt is provided. A consumer and a merchant conduct a commercial transaction using a distributed data processing system. An electronic receipt is recorded on a removable storage medium at a first data processing system. The electronic receipt contains data concerning the commercial transaction. The removable storage medium is then read at a second data processing system. After validating the electronic receipt, another commercial transaction or another stage of the original commercial transaction may be performed. The electronic receipt may be validated for a warranty claim on goods or services subject to the purchase transaction, and the removable storage medium may be an optical card or a smart card, either of which is able to store thousands of e-receipts and other electronic documents related to a commercial transaction, with the integrity of each guaranteed through digital signature, digital certificate, etc.

摘要： Provided is a system for removing digital rights management (DRM) resources from digital content playback devices. Materials protected by DRM are stored on the playback devices and a separate device is provided for access to the materials. The system may be inserted into multiple devices and provides the resources necessary for accessing the DRM protected material on each device when inserted. The DRMP is coupled either wirelessly or through available connections to the playback device to provide DRM resources. Multiple playback devices are able to operate independently while maintaining the portability of the protected materials.
