    摘要： A surgical instrument for illuminating a surgical field is presented. The surgical instrument comprises a handle having a proximal portion, a distal portion, and a longitudinal axis; a retractor blade releasably coupled to the handle, the retractor blade having a first surface and a second surface, wherein the second surface is configured to engage and retract tissue and the first surface faces away from the second surface; and an illumination element coupled to the handle. The illumination element illuminates the surgical field with light emitted from the illumination element in a direction transverse to the longitudinal axis of the handle. The retractor blade is releasably coupled to the handle so that the retractor blade is releasable from the handle while the illumination element remains coupled with the handle.

    摘要： An illuminated suction apparatus integrated into a handle. The suction apparatus comprises a suction tube made of metal. The suction tube has a proximal portion, a distal portion, and defines a lumen. The suction apparatus further comprises a non-fiber optic waveguide secured on the suction tube and leaving the proximal portion and the distal portion exposed. The non-fiber optic waveguide is configured to transmit light through the waveguide. The suction apparatus still further comprises an exterior cladding layer attached to the outside of the non-fiber optic waveguide, and an electrode tip extending distally past a distal edge of the suction tube, wherein the suction tube is used as a conductor.

The proximal end of the suction tube is provided with fittings for connection to a vacuum source. A pre-selected type of multispectral light may be configured to reduce reflection from blood. The anchor element is configured to be releasably coupled with the patient, and the illumination element is coupled to the anchor element. The anchor element or the illumination element is configured to be coupled, uncoupled, and recoupled with the patient or adjacent surgical equipment. This allows repositioning of the illumination element at a plurality of positions in the surgical field without interfering with adjacent surgical instruments, and further permits adjustment of illumination in the surgical field.
