摘要: A wall (10) is provided on one side of a web (W) of paper or the like traveling along a predefined path, and an airstream is produced between the wall and the traveling web approximately in the direction of web travel. A transverse static pressure gradient is established across the airstream, causing the stream to flow close to the wall surface. This phenomenon is called as the Coanda effect. A partial vacuum created in the airstream causes the web to deflect from its normal path and to be drawn to the wall surface under sufficient pressure to be kept from fluttering. This method of web flutter control is applied to the splicing of webs, as from one roll to another in a web-fed rotary printing press. The web being unwound from the old roll has been susceptible to fluttering while being spliced to the new roll, such web fluttering being eliminable by providing a wall member along the web path and producing an airstream between the web and the wall member.

摘要: A conveyor system to be appended to a web-fed printing press for transportation of signatures ( F ) from a delivery fan ( D ) to a stacking station ( Q ), comprising a first conveyor (10) for transporting the signatures from the delivery fan to a transfer position ( R ), and a second conveyor (20) for transporting the signatures from the transfer position to the stacking station. The two conveyor (10, 20) are driven separately so that each can be set into and out of operation independently of the other.
For unfailing transfer of the signatures from the first to the second conveyor, the first conveyor (10) comprises a pair of endless chains (10 a ) each having a series of first grippers (11) mounted thereto in transverse alignment with their counterparts on the other endless chain, each transversely aligned pair of first grippers being capable of conjointly gripping a signature at two spaced points on one edge thereof. The second conveyor (20) has but one endless chain (20 a ) with a series of second grippers (24) mounted thereto. Each second gripper grips, in the transfer position, a signature at a point on its edge intermediate the two spaced points where the signature has been gripped by one pair of first grippers (11) on the first conveyor (10).

摘要: A blanket cylinder for use in offset lithography in combination with a blanket assembly (T) including a blanket (28) and a carrier sheet (C) therefor. The carrier sheet of the blanket assembly has a major portion (20) to which the blanket is attached, a first flange (21) at an acute angle to the major portion, a second flange (27) at an obtuse angle to the major portion and a rim (23) at an acute angle to the second flange. The blanket cylinder comprises a cylinder assembly (B) having formed therein an undercut groove (7) with an entrance slot (6) bounded by and between a first (24) and a second (25) longitudinal edge, the first longitudinal edge being cross-sectionally shaped to be engaged by the first flange (21) of the carrier sheet (C), and a retainer spindle (12) mounted in the undercut groove in the cylinder assembly for bidirectional rotation therein.
In order to hold the blanket assembly (T) closely wrapped around the cylinder assembly (B), the retainer spindle (12) is cross-sectionally shaped to include a pull-in hook (16) for engaging the rim (23) of the carrier sheet (C) in order to pull the second flange (27) thereof into the undercut groove (7) with the rotation of the retainer spindle in a first direction, and a push-out ledge (28) for abutment against the rim (23) of the carrier sheet in order to push the second flange (27) out the undercut groove with the rotation of the retainer spindle in a second direction. The retainer spindle (12) is biased by a pair of torsion springs (17, 18) to turn in the first direction.
