This invention provides a thermosetting organic solvent paint comprising (A) a compound with a number-average molecular weight of less than 2000 and having at least two alicyclic epoxy groups per molecule, (B) an epoxy group-containing acrylic resin which has a number-average molecular weight of 2000 to 50000, a hydroxyl number of 10 to 150 mgKOH/g and an epoxy equivalent of at most 220, (C) a thermally latent cationically polymerizable catalyst and (D) either gelatinized fine polymer particles or a combination of colloidal silica with tetraalkylammonium salt, the molar ratio of epoxy group in component (A) to epoxy group in component (B) ranging from 1 : 1 to 1 : 0.05, and capable of forming a coating film which gives smooth coated surface, is hard to be softned even when exposed to a high temperature of 60°C or higher, excellent in stain resistance, and from which adhered pollutants are easily removed. This invention further provides a method to form a multilayered coating film which comprises coating a substrate with one or more species of colored paint and one or more species of clear paint in order, said method being characterized in that the above-mentioned thermosetting organic solvent paint is used as a clear paint which is to be applied on the uppermost layer.
