摘要:
A printer and method for printing corrugated cardboard sheet (5) comprises at least one ink jet printing unit (114) having a plurality of ink jet nozzles: a conveyor belt (120) having a direction of travel for conveying corrugated sheets to the ink jet printing unit, perforations or pores (135) extending through the conveyor belt; a plurality of ink jet nozzles being disposed transverse to the direction of travel of the conveyor belt and spaced above or below a liner surface of the corrugated sheet to be printed; a suction chamber (129) in communication with the perforations or pores in the conveyor belt at the ink jet printing unit for applying suction to the corrugated sheet and urging the corrugated sheet against the conveyor belt; means (81) for selectively controlling the suction area in communication with the perforations or pores in conveyor belt at the ink jet printing unit so that the transverse dimension of the suction area is substantially less than the width of the corrugated sheet. The transverse dimension of the suction area may substantially correspond to the intended printing area on the corrugated sheet. Where the corrugated sheet is slotted the suction area is out of communication with slots in the corrugated sheet. The sheets may be ink jet printed one or both sides or liners.

A printing machine comprises a transfer device including a conveyor having suction holes formed therethrough for transferring cardboard sheets one by one, a suction device for applying a suction force on one of the two surfaces of each of the cardboard sheets, which one of two surfaces faces the conveyor, and ink jet heads located to face the other of the surfaces of each of the cardboard sheets to be spaced apart therefrom. The ink jet heads are located in such a manner that a desired distance is maintained between tips of the ink jet heads and the other surface to be printed and include ink jet nozzles from each of which ink is jetted out toward said the other surface. The ink jet heads have skirts located upstream and downstream of the transferring direction of the cardboard sheets in such a manner that the skirts extend from the ink jet heads toward the other surface and have a width which covers the ink jet nozzles so as to form a partition in a space between the ink jet nozzles and the other surface.

A method for printing corrugated cardboard sheets is effected by transferring the corrugated cardboard sheets while jetting ink droplets from ink jet nozzles onto the corrugated cardboard sheets to form dots thereon. Said method comprises the steps of transferring the corrugated cardboard sheets one by one while at the same time sucking one flat surface of each of the corrugated cardboard sheets, and adjusting the relationship among the velocity at which the corrugated cardboard sheets are transferred, the suction force of the corrugated cardboard sheets, and the distance between the ink jet nozzle and the other corrugated surface of each of the corrugated cardboard sheets in accordance with the configuration of the said other corrugated surface and the desired DPI of dots to be formed on the said other corrugated surface. As a result, the ink droplets are jetted toward the said other corrugated surface to be printed thereon.

A roll unit (14) includes at its one axial end first means (25) for supporting and moving the roll unit on a floor and at its other axial end second means (26) for supporting and moving the roll unit (14) on the floor. The first supporting and moving means (25) movably supports the roll unit (14) against a first floor, while the second supporting and moving means (26) movably supports the roll unit (14) against a second floor, the level of which is different from that of the first floor. The second supporting and moving means (26) includes an auxiliary means for movably supporting the roll unit (14) against the first floor which auxiliary means is disposed at a predetermined position between the first (25) and second (26) supporting and moving means along the axial direction. The roll unit (14) further comprises means for selecting from between the auxiliary means and the second supporting and moving means (26) the means which cooperates with the first supporting and moving means (25) to movably support the roll unit (14), the selection being made by changing the level of the auxiliary means relative to the second supporting and moving means (26).
