A system and method for use in ordering and/or producing a printed sheet for forming a box, container or component thereof having free space thereon for third party advertising are disclosed. A first party or producer of the sheet, or box made therefrom, maintains a computer readable data base of second party orders for boxes having printable areas thereon, where one or more of the areas are free areas or space available for third party advertising printed matter. The third party may specify requirements for free space, including characteristics of the free space, box characteristics, and time period of availability of the box. The first party may accept orders for the free space on second party box orders, and receives the images from the third party and has the images printed on a printed sheet using an ink jet printer.

A printer and method for manufacturing a printed corrugated cardboard product are disclosed in which a corrugated cardboard sheet is prepared and comprises a corrugated core sheet and at least a first liner sheet, the crests of the corrugated core sheet being secured or glued to the first liner and the first liner has visible press marks. Ink jet printing of the first liner is carried out so that the visible print marks do not become more conspicuous. The other or second liner of a doubled-faced of the same corrugated sheet may be printed at a high throughput before the first liner is printed off-line in an ink jet printer.
