A production process characterized by reacting, in the presence of an organic solvent and an acid catalyst, a compound having at least two phenolic hydroxy groups per molecule with a sugar in which the hydroxy group on the anomeric carbon atom has been acetylated, while the acetic acid generated is being removed from the reaction system. By the process, a glycoside can be produced in a high yield which comprises the compound having at least two phenolic hydroxy groups per molecule and at least two molecules of the sugar, the anomeric carbon atoms of which are bonded to the at least two phenolic hydroxy groups of that compound through a glycoside bond.

A compound represented by the following general formula (1). When incorporated into a rubber, the compound gives a rubber composition which retains processability and high moist-heat adhesiveness and in which the blooming which is observed when resorcinol or an RF resin is contained is minimized. This rubber composition is less apt to decrease in adhesiveness during storage and can stably show its adhesiveness. Also provided is a composition containing the compound as a major ingredient. A (meth)acrylic ester compound represented by the general formula (1): (wherein R11 represents a divalent aromatic group; R12 represents hydrogen or methyl; R13 represents aryl; R14 represents hydrogen or methyl; and X11 represents oxygen or sulfur); and a dental material containing the compound. The dental material and dental composition which each contains the compound represented by the general formula (1) are useful because they have excellent curability and combine transparency, suitability for roentgenography, and low polymerization shrinkage while retaining various properties required of dental materials (e.g., flexural strength). A polymerizable composition containing the (meth)acrylic ester compound represented by the general formula (1) can be polymerized and molded in a short time by photopolymerization. It gives a cured resin satisfactory in transparency, optical properties (refractive index and Abbe's number), heat resistance, mechanical properties, etc. Also provided is an optical part obtained by polymerizing the polymerizable composition.
