Abstract:
A catalyst for olefin polymerization which comprises a novel transition metal compound and has excellent activity in olefin polymerization; and a method of polymerizing an olefin using this catalyst. The catalyst comprises a transition metal compound (A-1) represented by formula (I) or a transition metal compound (A-2) represented by formula (II) and optionally further contains at least one compound (B) selected from the group consisting of organometallic compounds (B-1), organoaluminumoxy compounds (B-2), and compounds (B-3) which react with the transition metal compound (A-1) or (A-2) to form an ion pair. (In the formulae, M represents a transition metal in Groups 3 to 11 of the Periodic Table; m is an integer of 1 to 3 in formula (I) and is an integer of 1 to 6 in formula (II); Q represents -N= or -C(R2)=; A represents -O-, -S-, -Se-, or -N(R?6)-; R1 to R6¿ each represents hydrogen, a hydrocarbon group, etc., provided that two or more of R1 to R6 may be bonded to each other to form a ring; n is a number equal to the valence of M; and X represents halogeno, a hydrocarbon group, etc.).
