摘要： A system and method for transmitting information from a sender at a source mobile unit to a recipient at a destination mobile unit. A sender at a source mobile unit (102) may select a destination mobile unit (106). An overture element may then be formed. The overture element may contain information from the sender at the source mobile unit (102) indicating that the sender desires to establish a wireless connection with the recipient at the destination mobile unit (106). At least one data burst message may be formed and the overture element may be incorporated into the data burst message.

摘要： A method and apparatus for blocking a call attempt in a CDMA system. The method includes the steps of receiving a call attempt request to be placed over a target cell of the CDMA system (202), calculating an effective load for the cell (204), comparing the effective load to a threshold (206), and denying the call attempt request by sending a denial message if the effective load exceeds the threshold (212). The apparatus includes a base station (101) and a base station controller (200) coupled to the base station (101). The base station (101) includes a plurality of transceivers (120) providing a radio communication channel and defining a target cell (130). The base station controller (200) receives a call attempt request to be placed over one of the transceivers (120) of the base station (101). The base station controller (200) calculates an effective load for the base station (101), compares the effective load to a threshold, and denies the call attempt request by sending a denial message if the effective load exceeds the threshold.

摘要： An interconnect communication system is provided that provides for dispatch-type services including Instant Access call set up, talkgroup creation and management, and in-band floor arbitration and mode switching that employ in-band signaling tones. By providing talkgroup creation and management and in-band floor arbitration that are transparent to the underlying network, the talkgroup creation and management and in-band floor arbitration may be implemented in a legacy system without the need to modify the network and regardless of the type of network employed. Furthermore, by providing Instant Access call set up procedures and mode switching procedures that are capable of utilizing modified versions of known messages, the procedures may be implemented in a legacy system in a simplified manner, minimizing the impact of an addition of such procedures to a legacy network.
