    摘要: A method for treating a brain tumor includes providing a surgical instrument (22) having an inner member (56) and an outer member (52). The outer member has a distal region (66) forming a cutting window (70) and an optional distal elevator tip (72). The inner member is rotatably received within the outer member, and has a cutting tip that is exposed at the window. The cutting tip and the distal region of the outer member combine to define a cutting implement (30). An opening is created through the patient's skull to provide access to a brain tumor target site. The cutting implement is delivered through the opening to the target site. The elevator tip is inserted partially between the tumor and tissue of the target site, and the cutting tip is placed into contact with the tumor and operated to cut the tumor. The target site is selectively aspirated to remove cut tumor tissue. The user controls the level of vacuum applied by obturating a hole (210) in the aspiration control device (34) with his finger.

    摘要: A cutting device for use with a powered surgical tool comprising an outer blade (24) having a distal end (28) having an end cap (128). The end cap is planar and perpendicular to cylindrical sides of the outer blade. A distal cutting window (26) is formed in the end cap and the cylindrical sides, and the distal cutting window is defined by edges (130, 132) having protrusions and window teeth (134). The cutting device comprises an inner blade (20) having a distal portion including a cutting tip (22). The cutting tip includes teeth (116a, 116b) configured in pairs that extend radially toward one another across a first opening and castellations (112a, 112b) that extend parallel to a longitudinal axis of the inner blade toward the end cap of the outer blade. The castellations extend along the distal portion between the first opening and a second opening, and the second opening is circumferentially spaced from the first opening. The inner blade is disposed coaxially within the outer blade along a longitudinal axis with the cutting tip aligned within the cutting window. The window teeth of the cutting window are longitudinally offset from the teeth of the cutting tip.
