摘要:
A method for checking the authenticity of a security article (158) wherein the security article contains magnetic particles having a magnetic saturation field Hs being greater than 100 A/m. The method comprises the following steps: (a) generating an alternating field of one or more fundamental frequencies; (b) subjecting an article (158) to be detected to said field; (c) detecting a detection signal emanating from said article to be detected; (d) examining the detection signal for the presence of any particular higher harmonics of said fundamental frequencies or of any linear combination of said fundamental frequencies and of said harmonics, said particular harmonics or said linear combination being indicative of the presence of said magnetic particles. The method is applied at point of transaction locations, where the article to be detected is brought into close proximity with a sensor.

A method of checking the authenticity of a security document, said security document comprising an electrically non-conducting base material such as paper or plastic, particles functioning as an electrical dipole being incorporated in said base material and functioning as a security element. The method comprises the following steps: (a) manually performing a relative movement between a document (10) to be checked and a microwave detector; (b) emitting microwaves to said document (10) to be checked and receiving microwaves from said document to be checked in order to check whether said particles are present; (c) preventing human fingers or peoples' hands from interfering with the microwaves received from said document to be checked in order to avoid that human fingers are confused with said particles.

A method for distinguishing between a semi-soft magnetic material, having a magnetic saturation field Hs ranging from 100 A/m to 3000 A/m, and a soft magnetic material, having a magnetic saturation field Hs ranging from 3 A/m to 100 A/m, comprises following steps: (a) emitting an electromagnetic drive signal of one or more particular frequencies to an article so that any present semi-soft magnetic material or soft magnetic material in the article go into saturation for both positive and negative magnetic fields; (b) detecting an electromagnetic detection signal (20) emanating from the article; (c) measuring time or relative phase delays (A, B) between one or more reference points of the drive signal and points at which positive and negative peaks of the detection signal occur; (e) comparing the measured time or relative phase delays with values which are typical for semi-soft magnetic or soft magnetic features in order to make a decision whether the material is soft magnetic or semi-soft magnetic.

摘要:
The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for detecting the presence of particles in a substrate the base material of which has electromagnetic properties substantially differing from the corresponding electromagnetic properties of the particles. The invention also relates to the particles and to the substrate comprising such particles which allow to recognise easily a document as being a genuine security document in order to prevent the document from being copied or in order to contribute to its authentication.
