This invention is a method and a product of the method for making agglomerated bits. The agglomerated bits are made by mixing aspartame and a bulking agent, desirably maltodextrin, with starch and a gum. Flavorings and dispersing agents can be added to this blend. Upon mixing of this blend a vegetable oil and water mixture is added to the dry ingredients with mixing which causes agglomeration to occur. Following agglomeration, the agglomerated bits are dried and sifted through a screen. The agglomerated bits are suitable for use in home-cooked grain cereals and other foods.

The wetted farina is tempered, preferably iith agitation, to produce a material having uniform noisture. The tempered material is cooked, the average part- cle size of the cooked material being increased thereby. The verage particle size of the cooked material is then reduced. The dried, flaked product can be made ready-to-eat by econstituting in a bowl with hot water, milk or other suitable dible liquid containing water. The centrifugal impact milling apparatus has a casing and a rotor rotatably mounted in the casing. The rotatable rotor is rotated at a peripheral velocity which is sufficient to cause destruction of the insect infestation in the particulate cereal grain by impelling by centrifugal force the particulate cereal grain in contact with the peripheral region of the rotor against the inner wall of the casing and/or impactors located inside of the casing but the centrifugal force is of such a magnitude as not to significantly decrease the particle range profile of the particulate cereal grain. The particulate cereal grain is removed from the centrifugal impact milling apparatus and the particulate cereal grain is mixed with at least one edible additive.

Farina and an effective amount of guar gum in powder form are admixed. The homogeneous mixture is impregnated with a sufficient amount of water to saturate the mixture. The tempered material is cooked, the average particle size of the cooked material being increased thereby. The average particle size of the cooked material is then reduced. The particulate, cooked material is dried. The dry, particulate material is then tempered to provide a uniform moisture content. The tempered, particulate material is flaked to form a dry product in flake form, which is capable of being readily rehydrated by the addition thereto of hot water to provide a food product having the texture, etc., of cooked farina.
