    Novel tetrazolinone derivatives of the formula (I) and intermediates of the formula (II) for production thereof represented by the following formulas
    wherein

    X represents C 1-4 alkyl,
    n represents 1, 2, 3 or 4,
    R 1 and R 2 each independently represents C 1-6 alkyl, C 2-4 alkenyl, C 2-6 alkynyl C 3-8 cycloalkyl, aryl which may optionally be substituted (wherein the substituent is at least one radical selected from the group consisting of halogen, C 1-4 alkyl, C 1-2 haloalkyl, C 1-2 haloalkoxy, C 1-2 haloalkylthio, acyl, nitro and cyano) or aralkyl which may optionally be substituted by halogen, or
    R 1 and R 2 may form, together with the N-atom to which they are bonded, a cyclic ring which may optionally be substituted.

    The above tetrazolinone derivatives of formula (I) have an excellent activity as the effective component in herbicides.

    R¹ represents halogen atom, C₁₋₄ alkyl, C₁₋₄ alkoxy, halogeno-C₁₋₄ alkyl or halogeno-C₁₋₄ alkoxy,
    R² represents halogen atom, C₁₋₄ alkoxy, halogeno-C₁₋₄ alkyl or halogeno-C₁₋₄ alkoxy,
    R³ represents C₁₋₄ alkyl or C₃₋₇ cycloalkyl substitutable with C₁₋₄ alkyl, and
    R⁴ represents hydroxy, amino or oxo group,
    as well as the use thereof as herbicidal agents.

       The compounds according to the present invention exhibit an excellent herbicidal activity.
