A charge-transporting varnish which contains a charge-transporting material that is composed of an aniline derivative represented by formula (1), a dopant material that is composed of phosphotungstic acid, and an organic solvent, and wherein the ratio of the mass (W D ) of the dopant material to the mass (W H ) of the charge-transporting material, namely W D /W H satisfies 3.5 ≤ W D /W H ≤ 15.0. This charge-transporting varnish is able to be fired at low temperatures and under conditions where sufficient oxygen is not present, for example, in an inert gas atmosphere or at a reduced pressure. A thin film that is formed under such firing conditions has high planarity and high charge-transporting properties, and enables an organic EL element to exhibit excellent EL element characteristics in cases where the thin film is applied to the organic EL element.
