Provided is an optical functional film in which air bubbles can be effectively prevented from forming during lamination, and preferably in which a carrier film does not tear readily. Also provided is a method for manufacturing a liquid crystal display device using this optical functional film. A belt-shaped optical functional film is used in order to cut away the optical functional film at predetermined intervals from the belt-shaped optical functional film to which a carrier film is bonded, with the carrier film remaining uncut; to subsequently turn over the carrier film by an edge-shaped member and peel away the optical functional film; and to laminate the exposed surface of the optical functional film to a sheet member while the optical functional film is being peeled away, wherein the optical functional film is characterized in that the flexural rigidity of the carrier film per unit length in the longitudinal direction is from 5.0×10 -5 N·mm 2 to 8.0×10 -2 N·mm 2 , and the longitudinal modulus in the longitudinal direction is from 3000 MPa to 5000 MPa.

The material roll includes a long sheet of an optical film with polarizer wound into roll shape; and marking(s) formed at or in a vicinity of at least one defect site. The marking has an optical density of 1.5 or more, and a thickness of a center part of the marking is 1.5 µm or less. The marking preferably has an optical density per unit thickness of 2.5 µm -1 or more.

The optical function film(10) is divided into a plurality of cut pieces by score lines(16) formed along a widthwise direction of the optical film laminate(15). The invention provides a manufacturing system and a manufacturing method of an optical display device which can bond an optical film to one surface and the other surface of an optical display unit in such a manner that optical anisotropies are orthogonal, by using two material rolls in which their optical anisotropies are the same direction such as an absorption axis. The manufacturing system of the optical display device in which the optical film is bonded to the optical display unit is provided with a supplying apparatus of a first sheet material supplying after cutting into a predetermined length, and a supplying apparatus of a second sheet material supplying after cutting into a predetermined length, and the supplying apparatus of the first sheet material and the supplying apparatus of the second sheet material are structured such that one supplying apparatus cuts a long sheet material having a width corresponding to a short side into a length corresponding to a long side, and the other supplying apparatus cuts a long sheet material having a width corresponding to the long side into a length corresponding to the short side, in correspondence to the long side and the short side of the optical display unit.
