Accuracy and speed in continuous manufacture of liquid crystal display elements are improved to fundamentally solve problems in improvement of yield. The method for continuously manufacturing liquid crystal elements has a step in which cutting positions of a failure sheet piece and a normal sheet piece are defined based on the positions of defects detected in a pre-inspection, on a continuous web of an optical film; and a step of pasting, on a liquid crystal panel, a sheet piece of a polarization film formed in a size according to the liquid crystal panel from the continuous web recording cutting position information relating to the cutting positions as encoded information. In the method and apparatus for continuously manufacturing liquid crystal elements, length measurement data are calculated from the supply amount of the continuous web, the encoded information recorded on the continuous web is read, cutting lines are formed on the continuous web along the cutting positions from the opposite side of a carrier film based on the encoded information and the length measurement data, a sheet piece of the polarization film formed between the cutting lines is judged whether the sheet piece is normal or not, the sheet piece judged normal is peeled from the carrier film and forwarded to a pasting station, and the normal sheet piece is pasted on the liquid crystal panel supplied to the pasting station.

Provided is an optical film laminate with cutting lines for increasing the precision and speed in the manufacture of liquid crystal elements and drastically improving the yield. The optical film laminate with a continuous web of cutting lines is assumed to be used in an apparatus which continuously manufactures liquid crystal display elements affixed with a sheet of optical functional film. The optical film laminate is divided in the lengthwise direction based on the positions of detected defects and is composed of regions which do not include defects having the specified lengths corresponding to the dimensions of the liquid crystal panel and regions which include defects having different specified lengths than the region not including defects. In the optical film laminate which includes an optical functional film including an adhesive layer and a carrier film which can be peeled off and is deposited on the adhesive layer, a normal sheet which does not include defects in the carrier film and a bad sheet which includes defects are formed by forming cutting lines corresponding to each of the above regions along the width direction of the optical film laminate.

[MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] The present invention provides a continuous web of an optical film laminate with predefined slit lines for use in a continuous manufacturing system by laminating optically functional film sheets to liquid-crystal panels. The optical film laminate comprises an optically functional film having an adhesive layer comprising a defect-free region having a predefined length corresponding to the dimension of a liquid-crystal panel and a defective region having a predefined length different from the defect-free region, defined in a longitudinal direction, based on the detected position of defects, and a carrier film releasably laminated to the adhesive layer, wherein defect-free normal polarizing sheets and a defective polarizing sheets are formed on the carrier film by forming slit lines corresponding to above regions along the transverse direction of the optical film laminate.
