Methods and apparatus, including computer program products, are provided for allocating resources among user elements. In one aspect there is provided a method. The method may include receiving, at a base station, information from a user element. The information may include at least one bit representing whether direct transmissions between pairs of user elements cause interference to the user element. The base station may schedule, based on the received information, the user element into at least one of a first subframe, when the received information indicates a risk of interference from the direct transmissions between the pairs of user elements, and into a second subframe, when the received information indicates no risk of interference from the direct transmissions between the pairs of user elements. The units are ordered in a predetermined order. A second group of communication resource units are selected from the communication resource in descending order and assigned to a second group of communications devices to perform information transmission operations in a second time period. A communication link is provided between a station of an access system and a relay node. The relay node is a node capable of wirelessly communicating with at least one communication device within the coverage thereof. A set up procedure for the communication link is initiated such that the relay node acts as a communication device towards the station, the set up procedure being initiated according to a set up procedure between the station and communication devices accessing the station directly. Communication between the relay node and at least one communication device within the coverage area thereof are handled such that the relay nodes acts as a station of an access system towards said at least one communication device.

A logic allocates a plurality of transmission time intervals (TTIs) of a time duplex division (TDD) transmission scheme as a bundle for supporting transmission of duplicate data over the TTIs. The bundle of TTIs is associated with a plurality of initial hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) processes. The logic also maintains one or more of the same initial HARQ processes as unbundled for a predetermined TDD configuration.

Singalling uplink and downlink scheduling grants for a plurality of subframes in a time division duplex frame is addressed. In one aspect the allocated uplink subframes are divided into groups, so the number of groups equals the number of downlink subframes being allocated. Uplink grants for the groups are sent with the downlink grants, and for those groups that have more than one uplink subframe, the grant message also indicates which uplink subframes are included in that group. In another aspect there are two sets of grant messages, one for the uplink subframes and one for the downlink subframes. Each of the uplink grant messages is sent on a different uplink grant message, and there is a one-to-one correspondence between the uplink grant channel and the uplink subframe being scheduled by the grant. That correspondence may also be signalled with the grant messages.

Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) transfer is provided over radio links between mobile stations and base stations with a mechanism to schedule initial transmission within voice spurts when semi-persistent allocation of radio resources is employed. The radio link is changed during the voice spurt by allocating different physical resource blocks or by changing transmission parameters with given rescheduling intervals. The scheduling is informed from the base station to involved MS by using data link layer VoIP packet padding bits. The radio link can also be changed per initiative of the MS so that the MS codes a predetermined request into data link layer padding bits of an uplink VoIP packet. The requests from the MS typically involve a change of audio coding mode or informing of the present packet buffer status for VoIP packets at the MS.
