摘要:
This invention is generally related to vision corrections by means of multifocal ophthalmic lenses or by means of corneal refractive surgery. In particular, the present invention provides a multifocal contact lens, a multifocal intraocular lens, a method for making a multifocal ophthalmic lens (contact lens and intraocular lens), and a method of correcting presbyopia by reshaping the cornea of an eye.
摘要:
The present invention provides a method for designing and making a customized ophthalmic lens, such as a contact lens or an intraocular lens, capable of correcting high-order aberrations of an eye. The posterior surface of the customized contact lens is designed to accommodate the corneal topography of an eye. The design of the customized ophthalmic lens is evaluated and optimized in an optimizing routine using a computational model eye that reproduces the aberrations and corneal topography of an eye. The present invention also provides a system and method for characterizing the optical metrology of a customized ophthalmic lens that is designed to correct aberrations of an eye. Furthermore, the present invention provides a business model and method for placing an order for a pair of customized ophthalmic lenses.
摘要:
A method and system for treating Presbyopia and pre-Presbyopia are provided that do not compromise the wearer's intermediate or distance vision. The system is a lens and a lens series, wherein the power profiles of the lenses are tailored to provide an amount of positive ADD power in the near vision zone that is slightly less than that which is normally required for near vision accommodation, while also providing an amount of negative spherical aberration in the peripheral optical zone. The dynamic ocular factors of the wearer's eye work in conjunction with the positive ADD power provided by the central optical zone and with the effective ADD gained from the negative spherical aberration provided by the peripheral optical zone to induce a minimally discernible amount of blur that is tuned to maximize the wearer's depth of focus.

The present invention provides a method for converting a desired lens design to a geometry of a contact lens, preferably a customized contact lens or a contact lens having a complex surface design, to be produced in a computer-controlled manufacturing system. The method comprises: providing a lens design of a contact lens having a central axis, an anterior surface and an opposite posterior surface; projecting a predetermined number of points within a predetermined surface tolerance onto a surface of the lens design along each of a desired number of evenly-spaced semi-diameter spokes, each spoke radiating outwardly from the central axis; and for each of the spokes, generating a semi-meridian which is continuous in first derivative and includes a series of arcs and optionally straight lines, wherein each arc is defined by fitting at least three consecutive points into a spherical mathematical function within a desired concentricity tolerance, wherein each of the straight lines is obtained by connecting at least three consecutive points.

The present invention is directed to a contact lens design where the optics position relative to the pupil is controlled by the lens relationship to the lower lid.

The present invention provides a translating contact lens having a central axis, an anterior surface and an opposite posterior surface. The anterior surface includes an optical zone and a tamped ridge zone capable of controlling contact lens position on an eye in primary gaze and/or translating amount across the eye when the eye changes from gazing at an object at a distance to gazing at an object at an intermediate distance or at a nearby object. The tamped ridge zone is disposed below the optical zone and includes an upper edge, a lower tamped edge, a latitudinal ridge that extends outwardly from the anterior surface, and a ramp that extends downwardly from the lower tamped edge and has a curvature or slope that ensures a varying degree of interaction between the tamped ridge zone and the lower eyelid depending on where the lower eyelid strikes the tamped ridge zone. The lower eyelid of the eye is engaged with at least some portion of the tamped ridge zone at all times.

The present invention provides an ophthalmic lens capable of correcting or minimizing presbyopia, or of functioning used as an anti-myopic lens. The ophthalmic lens can be a contact lens, a phakic intraocular lens or an aphakic intraocular lens. The ophthalmic lens comprises an optical zone, the optical zone having a first surface and an opposite second surface and including a coma-like wavefront aberration oriented vertically from the top to the bottom of the ophthalmic lens. In addition, the present invention provides a method for minimizing/correcting presbyopia or for preventing children's eyes from becoming severely myopic.

A lens is provided that is capable of preventing or slowing the progression of myopia when worn by a person. The lens has a power profile that reduces on-axis and off-axis hyperopic defocus created by the optics of the eye by creating on-axis and off-axis myopic defocus. The on-axis and off-axis myopic defocus is created by providing light rays that pass through a central vision region of the optical portion and light rays that pass through a peripheral region of the optical portion an increase in positive (plus) power. The overall effect is to prevent or slow the progression of myopia without any perceptible degradation in the person's central vision.

The present invention is related to a contact lens for correcting severe spherical aberration. The contact lens of the invention comprises an anterior surface having a first optical zone and an opposite posterior surface having a second optical zone. The first optical zone is defined by a mathematical function including a conic term and at least one 4th or higher order mathematic term. The first optical zone, in combination with the second optical zone, provides a power profile in which the optical power of the lens decreases outwardly from the optical axis to the outer periphery such that the optical power at a 6 mm diameter is from about 1 to 5 diopters smaller than a manifest refractive power for an eye. The present invention also provides a series of contact lenses and a method for making contact lenses of the invention.
