摘要:
The present invention provides a method for producing an ophthalmic device by means of stereolithography. The method comprises the steps of: depositing (i) an essentially solvent-free liquid or melt of a device-forming material, or (ii) a solution of said device-forming material, into a container wherein said device-forming material is crosslinkable or polymerizable by actinic radiation; irradiating said device forming material with one or more activation energy beams to obtain a cured layer of polymerized or crosslinked device-forming material; irradiating said device-forming material with said one or more activation energy beams to obtain a cured layer on top of a previously cured layer; and repeating step (c) to obtain additional cured layers until said ophthalmic device is created integrally, wherein each of cured layers corresponds to a pertinent slice of said ophthalmic device.

This invention is related to lenses and the associated processes used to manufacture lenses. In particular, the present invention is related to a process for designing and creating bifocal, multifocal, and single vision ophthalmic lenses by modulating an energy source.

An ophthalmic lens mold includes a first mold (32) half having a front side and a back side. The front side (40) defines an optical surface. A second mold half (34) has a front side (42) defining an optical surface. Upon alignment of the first mold half with respect to the second mold half so that the front sides oppose each other, a mold cavity (96) is formed between the front sides to form an ophthalmic lens therein from a moldable material. The first mold half includes a first section (40) that transmits curing light (104) and that extends from the back side to the front side. The first section includes at least an area of the first mold half optical surface enclosed by an outermost circumference (72) of the ophthalmic lens. A second section (46) is comolded with the first section and blocks the light. The second section is disposed with respect to the first section so that the second section prevents the curing light incident to the back side from passing through the first mold half into an area of the mold cavity (96) extending from the first mold half front side (40) to the second mold half front side (42) surrounding and extending radially outward of a boundary that includes the ophthalmic lens circumference (72) and so that the first section passes the incident light to an area of the mold cavity bounded by and within the boundary.

The present invention provides a method for designing and making a customized ophthalmic lens, such as a contact lens or an intraocular lens, capable of correcting high-order aberrations of an eye. The posterior surface of the customized contact lens is designed to accommodate the corneal topography of an eye. The design of the customized ophthalmic lens is evaluated and optimized in an optimizing routine using a computational model eye that reproduces the aberrations and corneal topography of an eye. The present invention also provides a system and method for characterizing the optical metrology of a customized ophthalmic lens that is designed to correct aberrations of an eye. Furthermore, the present invention provides a business model and method for placing an order for a pair of customized ophthalmic lenses.

This invention relates generally to ophthalmic molds and methods useful for casting ophthalmic moldings. In one aspect, the invention relates to a mold for casting an ophthalmic molding formed from a first mold half detachably affixed to a second mold half, whereby the mold has a top and a bottom; and a cavity formed by the first and second mold halves, wherein the cavity receives a lens forming material through an opening at the bottom of the mold and vents gas and excess lens forming material from an opening at the top of the mold. In another aspect, this invention relates to methods for casting ophthalmic moldings, particularly intraocular lenses.

An ophthalmic lens includes an optical zone having a center and a spaced-apart periphery. The optical zone has a first corrective power range in a first region and a second corrective power range in an annular region surrounding the first optical zone. The second corrective power is corrective of spherical aberration of an eye. The optical zone has a power profile that gradually changes from the first corrective power to the second corrective power. A central progressive zone that provides intermediate vision correction may be applied to a central region of the lens. The progressive zone has a diameter that is less than or equal to the diameter of an aperture of a pupil when subjected to bright light.

A fenestrated contact lens having increased tear flow is provided. The fenestrated contact lens includes a lens body adapted for placement adjacent a surface of an eye which has an inner surface and an outer surface. The lens body has a first plurality of fenestrations extending therethrough which are biased to direct a flow of lachrymal fluid from a first location between the surface of the wearer's eye and the inner surface of said contact lens to a second location adjacent the outer surface of the contact lens. The lens body also includes a second plurality of fenestration extending therethrough, which are biased to direct a flow of lachrymal fluid from a third location adjacent the outer surface of the contact lens to a fourth location between the surface of the eye and the inner surface of said contact lens.
