An external trochanter splint, especially for the surgical stabilisation of femoral pertrochanter and subtrochanter fractures comprises a pair of clamps (2, 3) with their respective longitudinal axes (a, b), one of which (2) is designed for the movable locking of a first group of bone bolts (V) inserted into the mass of the trochanter, the other (3) for the movable locking of a second group of bone bolts (W) inserted into the proximal diaphysis of the femur. The two clamps are connected together in a side-by-side position by means of an intermediate connecting member (4). First securing means (26) for selectively immobilising the angle of divergence (α) between the longitudinal axes (a, b) and second locking means (32) for selectively immobilising the angle of rotation of at least one of the said clamps (3) about its own longitudinal axis (b) are provided. Intermediate member (4) comprises a central body (21) connected to clamps (2, 3) by means of a pair of rotatable joints with corresponding axes of rotation (c, d) which are substantially at right angles. In an alternative embodiment the bolts of the clamp along the trochanter can be immobilised along convergent lines, the joint between the two clamps having one or more frustoconical contact surfaces and the femoral clamp being subdivided into two parts which can be orientated about its own axis.
