摘要: [PROBLEMS] To provide a ball end mill capable of increasing a feed speed and a depth of cut by suppressing vibration to increase a cutting efficiency. [MEANS FOR SOLVING THE PROBLEMS] This ball end mill (1) comprises ball edges (6a to 6c) having first edge parts (6a1 to 6c1), second edge parts (6a2 to 6c2), and third edge parts (6a3 to 6c3). Since a first radius of curvature (R1), a second radius of curvature (R2), and a third radius of curvature (R3) are set to be different from each other, the vibration of the ball end mill (1) can be suppressed by changing the direction of a cutting resistance (cutting torque) given from a work (20) to the ball end mill (1) in the radial direction of the ball end mill by the first edge parts (6a1 to 6c1), the second edge parts (6a2 to 6c2), and the third edge parts (6a3 to 6c3). As a result, the feed speed and the depth of cut can be increased to increase the cutting efficiency.

摘要: By screwing a threaded shaft (24) provided on a tip (14) into a threaded hole (26) provided on a body (12), the tip (14) is detachably installed on the body (12). Additionally, a restraining part (40) of the tip (14) is fitted into a restraining hole (38) provided in the body (12) and the body (12) and the tip (14) are positioned to be concentric with the shaft center (O). As a result, a separate installation screw is unnecessary and the tool is configured from two parts, the body (12) and the tip (14). Therefore, high centering precision is easily obtained. Additionally, the cross-sectional areas of the respective parts increase and strength increases, variation in tool life is limited, and excellent tool life can be stably obtained. Moreover, because the surface (24f) of the tip of the threaded shaft (24) is pressed to adhere closely to the bottom surface (26f) of the threaded hole (26) and the tip (14) is fixed to the body (12) to form a unit, a compressive stress acts on the threaded shaft (24) and the tip (14) can be fastened to the body (12) with a higher fastening strength than when a tensile stress is in operation.

摘要: [Object] Providing a ball endmill that is capable of restraining its vibration thereby permitting a cutting operation to be performed at an increased feed rate with an increased depth of cut and leading to an improvement in efficiency of the cutting operation. [Measures for achieving the object] A ball endmill 1 is constructed such that each ball-nosed end cutting edge 6a-6c includes first and second portions 6a1-6c1, 6a2-6c2 having respective first and second radii R1, R2 of curvature which are different in value from each other. This construction causes a cutting resistance (cutting torque) exerted by the workpiece 20 to radially act in a direction that is different in the first and second portions 6a1-6c1, 6a2-6c2 of each ball-nosed end cutting edge 6a-6c. Consequently, a feed rate and a depth of cut can be increased whereby the cutting efficiency can be improved.
