Technically, the Polar moment of inertia (resistance to torsion) of the modified shank is greater than the polar moment of inertia of a shank with a mere reduction in diameter of the shank. The notches, recesses, grooves, bores or the like may further be filled with a material (75) to provide additional transverse stability to these one or more regions of reduced mechanical torque strength.

Bei einem integral beschaufelten Rotor erfolgt der Materialabtrag am Annulus (5) auf einem breitflächigen ebenen Bearbeitungsweg (8) mit der stirnseitigen Schneidfläche eines im wesentlichen zylindrischen Fräskopfes (7). Der Werkzeugschaft (9) ist in Form und Dimensionierung so ausgebildet, dass dieser nicht mit den gegenüberliegenden Seitenflächen der unterschiedlich gewölbten und verdrehten Schaufeln (4) kollidiert. Mit dieser Art der Bearbeitung kann mit einer verringerten Anzahl von einander überlappenden Bearbeitungswegen (8) eine im Wesentlichen ebene, glatte Annulusoberfläche erzielt werden. Der Zeitaufwand für die Annulusbeabeitung wird verringert und der Werkzeugverschleiß reduziert. Der so im Annulus bearbeitete Rotor wird hohen Anforderungen hinsichtlich der aerodynamischen Eigenschaften gerecht.
