A novel dinitrodiphenyl ether, a novel diaminodiphenyl ether, and polyimide resins are also disclosed.

The process may be conducted without solvent, in a polar solvent or in a non-polar solvent using a phase transfer catalyst.

Also disclosed is the preparation of 3,3′-sulfonyl-bis(5-trifluoromethyl) benzamine by reducing the benzene compound.
