    摘要: An authentication system using a correlator that correlates an input (84) with a reference (88) wherein at least one of the input and reference comprises a phase volume mask having structures that are each less than about six microns in size and can have an aspect ratio (AR) greater than 1:1 so as to produce a phase encoded random pattern having millions of combinations in a mask that is as small as one square millimeter. The random pattern can be convolved with a second pattern, such as a biometric pattern, to produce a phase convolved mask. The correlator (82) preferably is a nonlinear joint transform correlator that can use 'chirp' encoding. The correlator optically Fourier transforms (98) images of the reference and input that are thereafter nonlinearly transformed and inverse Fourier transformed by a processor (104) to determine authenticity (106, 110). A spatial light modulator (SLM) can be used as an input or reference.

    摘要: A method for compressing multiple channels using an MPEG-compatible technique (Fig.: block 96). The method encodes differences between frames within and among each channel (Fig.: blocks C1, C2, and CN). Some frames are predicted and some are skipped. Differences between the current and predicted frames for each channel are compared to a threshold E0 for each successive group of frames, after each group of each channel is encoded. If for any of the groups of frames, the difference between the current and predicted frames of any of the channels reaches the threshold, the method inserts an I-frame into the sequence of encoded frames, to restart encoding. Computing the differences and encoding I-frames is implemented for both intra- and inter-channel differences. The encoded frames are transmitted to a decoder for display. The method uses artificial intelligence or fuzzy logic.

    摘要: A panoramic annular lens system (PAL), a unitary video camera and a PC­based software system that unwraps a 360° video image into a seamless, distortion free horizontal image image in real time. The PAL system of the preferred embodiment has a 360° horizontal field of view and a 90° vertical field of view in a 40mm diameter compact package. The invention is not limited to any particular type of lens system. In fact, there are numerous lens systems for providing a 360° panoramic view. The video camera may be a CCD or CMOS based device having a pixel resolution of either 1280 x 1024 (high resolution) or 720 x 480 (NTSC). The unwrapping system is a radiometric ray tracing program carried out using a computer's graphics card capabilities to produce highly efficient regional transformation while minimizing software overhead. The result is real time, high resolution 30 fps conversion from a spherical distorted image to a flat panoramic image in Cartesian coordinates.

    摘要: A diffuser master is provided which is manufactured mechanically instead of holographically. The master can be made from a suitable substrate including relatively hard materials such as plastic, glass or metal. A substrate (30, 50, 70) having a first side (32, 52, 72) is worked to form a diffuser surface relief structure (33, 53, 73) thereon. The substrate can be buffed using a buffing agent (34) of a selected grit in order to form surface scratches in the first side of the substrate. The substrate can also be blasted with shot particles (80) in order to form indentations and depressions in the first side. The substrate can alternatively be acid or alkali etched in order to form surface irregularities in the first side. The scratches, depressions or irregularities can be formed in order to create a desired surface relief and hence desired diffuser output characteristics.
