摘要:
A system for the nonvolatile storage of data, such as a postage meter system, employs a microcomputer (104) coupled to two nonvolatile memories (106, 108). The first MNOS nonvolatile memory (106) requires data to be applied for more than a predetermined time for data to be written into a said nonvolatile memory (106) while the second EEPROM nonvolatile memory (108) is such that data applied for less than the predetermined time is sufficient for data to be written into the second nonvolatile memory (108). Each nonvolatile memory (106, 108) has address and data lines, which are coupled to microcomputer ports such that the MNOS memory data lines are always at a high value whenever the EEPROM memory (108) is addressed for the purpose of writing or reading. In the postage meter system transactional accounting data records are stored in the nonvolatile memory (106, 108). The most current record can be rapidly identified. A program store causes the microcomputer, when an error is detected in at least one of the nonvolatile memory records, to rewrite data into both the full record and the abbreviated data record stored in the nonvolatile memory (106, 108).
摘要:
A method for maintaining mailpiece integrity in a mailing system when a mechanical module experiences an error. For one category of errors, the mailing system may automatically recover from the error without operator intervention. For the remaining category of errors, the mailing system may recover from the error with minimum operator intervention, that is, the operator may be required to only remove the error producing mailpiece. A motion control processor for an error producing mechanical module will report a fault to its corresponding mailpiece builder task (30) and the error detector task. Movement of at least the error producing mailpiece shall stop. The fault will be reported to the mailpiece builder tasks (30) corresponding to the mechanical modules having no error condition. The mailing system shall suspend further processing of mailpieces upstream from the error producing mailpiece. For one category of errors, the mailing system will purge the error producing mailpiece from the error producing module without operator intervention. For the remaining category of errors, the operator will be required to remove at least the error producing mailpiece. State machines (24) are then selected to perform system wide job recovery.

A table (24) will be generated for tracking each mailpiece in a mailing system having multiple document paths. Attribute data (28) relating to a mailpiece will be stored in a memory while job data (22) relating to a mailing job will also be stored in a memory. A sequence building process (30) will look at the attribute data and determine the motion profiles that are required to ensure the mailpiece obtains the desired attributes. The sequence building then commands execution of the motion profiles.
