摘要:
Filtration of white blood cells (WBCs) directly from platelet rich plasma (PRP) rather than from subsequently made platelet concentrates (PC). Earlier filtration is effective at removing most WBCs with minimal platelet loss and permits storage of platelets for at least 5 days. The filtration is preferably done with a closed, ready-to-use system comprising a WBC filter (11) disposed between a first blood bag (3) and at least two empty secondary bags (15a,15b). A fourth bag (17) may be included in the closed system to contain a platelet additive solution. System can remove at least 95% of the WBCs with less than 10% loss in platelets. In very preferred embodiments at least 99.5% of the original WBCs are removed by filtration prior to platelet storage.
摘要:
Plastic blood bag system including a bag (3) having a generally longitudinal seal (3f) extending from the top of the bag (3) and between two blood bag ports (17a,27a) downwardly to at least the lower half of the bag (3) but not to the bottom of the bag (3), thereby leaving the sole passageway (3d) within the bag (3) and between two ports (17a,27a) located in the lower half of the bag (3). In one use, whole blood is introduced into the bag (3) and then centrifuged to form a lighter plasma portion (9) and a more dense red blood portion (11). The red blood cell portion (11) can then be removed from the lower part of the bag (3) by applying pressure to the bag (3) to push substantially all of the red blood cells through the passageway (3d) to one side of the longitudinal seal (3f) and out of the bag (3) through the port (17a) communicating with that side of the longitudinal seal (3f). In preferred embodiments, the longitudinal seal (3f) is generally parallel and close to one edge of the bag (3) and terminates at its lower portion within the lower 10% of the bag length. In very preferred embodiments, the volume of the side through which the more dense component exits the bag (3) is less than 10% of the total bag volume. The preferred system may be used as part of a closed multiple blood bag system with electronic monitoring means to provide semi-automated blood separation.

摘要:
A generally flat, elongated edge-sealed polymeric blood bag (33) having a length to width ratio of at least 2 to 1 and one end portion (12) in tapering communication with a connected single tubing (31) which in turn is in closed communication via a Y-connector (35) with both a bag access port (3) and at least one other Y-connector (45). The second Y-connector (45) is in closed communication with at least one auxiliary bag (39), preferably two auxiliary bags (39,41). Once the upper neocyte portion is expressed from the elongated blood bag the lower, more dense gerocytes can be saved in the original elongated bag or expressed into another connected bag via the Y-connector assembly for subsequent use or storage. The bag system is especially useful for separating and isolating both components of a neocyte/gerocyte red blood cell mixture in an open system and for providing a means for saving the otherwise discarded gerocytes for subsequent use. A physiological solution can be introduced via the Y-connector assemblies into the elongated bag to reconstitute the dense gerocytes.
