The halo suppression layer has a refractive index which is smaller than that of the faceplate and the screen and which reflects toward the scattering surface part of the rays of luminescent radiation which would otherwise contribute to halo.

    摘要： A device for doubling the frequency (ω) of electromagnetic radiation. The device includes a non-­linear substrate (12) having a non-linear optical waveguide (14, 16) of a differing refractive index disposed thereon. The waveguide layer includes an inverted polarization interface (18) at which the direction of polarization of the waveguide (14, 16) abruptly changes in sign. Radiation directed across the device parallel to the plane of the inverted polarization inter­face (18) will be doubled in frequency by the interface. The inverted polarization interface (18) may be achieved in a number of ways. The interface (18) may be directly grown on the substrate (12) or a single layer waveguide may be cleaved and flipped over upon itself. Finally, the waveguide may be formed by the growth of asymmetric mirror image quantum wells on either side of a plane to form the interface (18).

The compound filter includes a multilayer interference edge filter (40) adjacent the screen and a multilayer matching filter (42) adjacent the faceplate. The edge filter reflects back into the screen light rays received from the screen which would contribute the halo, and the matching filter matches the optical admittances of the edge filter and the faceplate. The faceplate arrangement is adapted for use in the projection TV tube system.
