摘要： In a method of initiating remote maintenance of a private branch exchange (N) connected to a public telephone network (VSt) by a servicing unit (SPC) which is also connected to the public telephone network (VSt), a password is generated in the master terminal which is also connected to the public telephone network (Vst). The password is forwarded both to the private branch exchange (N) and to the servicing unit (SPC). Only when the servicing unit (SPC) forwards to the private branch exchange (N) a password which matches the password stored there can the servicing unit carry out remote maintenance. This prevents remote maintenance activities in a private branch exchange (N) by non-authorised servicing units (SPC).

摘要： Remote maintenance of a private branch exchange (N) connected to a public exchange (VSt) by a servicing unit (SPC) which is also connected to the public exchange (VSt) is possible only if there is a regular exchange of information between the private branch exchange (N) and a master terminal (LS). In the course of this information exchange, the master terminal (LS) forwards its own call number to the private branch exchange (N), the call number being used to effect a regular connection to the master terminal (LS) which is also connected to the public exchange (VSt). In the event that the call number is no longer forwarded to the private branch exchange (N), the latter can no longer effect a regular connection to the master terminal (LS), and the private branch exchange (N) is thus closed to remote maintenance which might be initiated by a servicing unit (SPC).
