摘要:
Coating compositions including stable composite latex-pigment particles are prepared by dispersing titanium dioxide pigment particles in a dispersion of selected polymeric latex particles which have at least one dihydrogen phosphate functional group. The selected polymeric latex particles adsorb on to the titanium dioxide particles. Dibasic phosphate is then provided to the mixture to stop adsorption and stabilize the composite particles. The coating composition gives a coating with improved hiding.

A process for encapsulating a wide variety of target materials, including both hydrophilic and hydrophobic materials, employs condensation of two reactive compounds to form shells around core phase drops/particles including target mateial dispersed in a continuous phase. One of the reactive compounds has at least two active methylene functional groups per molecule, the other being an active methylene-reactive crosslinking agent. Either type of the reactive compounds can be dispersed in the continuous phase, the other being dispersible in the core phase. Applications include controlled release mocroencapsulation of agriculture chemicals and biocides.
摘要:
A water soluble, vinyl addition polymer of acrylamide comprising a hydrophobic terminal group is useful as an adsorbate and as a flow modifier in aqueous systems. The polymer is particularly useful as a thickening agent or rheology modifier for water based multiphase systems, a block improvement additive in water based coatings formulations, a stabilizer for aqueous emulsions (including polymer emulsions), a transfer aid in water based ink or roll coater formulations, a surfactant and a dispersant. The disclosure also comprises a solution polymerization method of preparing the polymer.

(a) from 1 to 99% by weight of monomer of at least one dicyclopentenyloxyalkyl ester of polymerizable ethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic or dicarboxylic acid, and (b) from 1 to 99% by weight of monomer of at least one drying oil or semi-drying oil ester having ethylenically unsaturated addition polymerisable functionality in the ester moiety.
The compositions may be used as reactive diluents in coating and/or impregnating compositions comprising (1) from 5 to 75% by weight of the monomer composition (2) from 95 to 25% by weight, based on the weight of components (1) and (2), of a film-forming component comprising at least one of: drying oil; alkyd resins having autoxidative functionality; vinyl addition polymers with drying oil functionality; film-forming binders lacking any appreciable inherent autoxidizable functionality; and- condensation polymers modified with acrylate or methacrylate functionality; (3) a polyvalent metal-containing complex or salt that catalyzes the autoxidative curing of components (1) and (2), and, optionally, (4) a volatile oxime stabilizer.

In lithographic inks containing colorant, binder resin and reactive diluent, the diluent comprises oxidatively curable ester prepared by reaction of drying oil fatty acid with hydroxyl-containing, addition polymerizable compounds, such as reaction product of polyol with addition polymerizable acid, hydroxyalkyl ester of such acid, hydroxyalkyl vinyl sulfide or hydroxyalkyl vinyl ether. The curable ester may also be prepared by reaction of addition polymerizable acid with hydroxyl-containing reaction product of polyol with drying oil fatty acid. Transesterifiable esters can be used instead of the acids. Preferred drying oil acids are derived from tung oil, linseed oil, safflower oil, soybean oil or dehydrated castor oil. The curable ester preferably comprises acryloxy alkyl or methacryloxy alkyl drying oil fatty acid ester.
