Abstract: A probe head of an air data probe is described herein comprising: an insert (20, 20A) including: a first end (38, 38A), a first end (40, 40A) opposite the first end (38, 38A); and a body portion (42, 42A) extending between the first end (38, 38A) and the first end (40, 40A), the body portion (42, 42A) including a groove; a portion of a heater within the groove; an outer shell (24, 24A) surrounding the insert (20, 20A) and the portion of the heater, the outer shell (24, 24A) including: a tip portion defining a first end (54, 54A) of the outer shell (24, 24A); and a body portion (42, 42A) extending from the tip portion; and a tip weld connected to the first end (38, 38A) of the insert (20, 20A) and the first end (54, 54A) of the outer shell (24, 24A), wherein the tip weld forms the tip of the probe head.

Abstract: A probe head (12) of an air data probe includes an insert (20), a portion of a heater, an outer shell, a tip weld, and a braze. The insert includes a tip portion making up a tip of the air data probe, an end portion (38), and a body portion extending between the tip portion and the end portion. The body portion includes a groove (46). The portion of the heater is positioned within the groove. The outer shell surrounds the body portion of the insert and the portion of the heater. The tip weld is located between the tip portion of the insert and a first end of the outer shell, and the braze is located between the end portion of the insert and a second end of the outer shell. The portion of the heater is hermetically sealed between the insert and the outer shell.

The inlet (28A), the air passageway (30A), the water dam (32A), and the heater bore (34) are all unitary to the body. The rod heater (224) is positioned within the heater bore (34).

Abstract: A method of determining an amount of imperfection in an additively manufactured material is disclosed herein. The method includes forming a sample piece constructed from the material during a same additive manufacturing cycle as a design piece constructed from the material, introducing a first electrical current to the sample piece while maintaining the sample piece at a reference temperature, and determining the amount of imperfection in the material depending on the measured resistance and the reference temperature of the sample piece.
