    摘要： Carbohydrates having primary hydroxyl groups, such as starch and cellulose, can be selectively oxidised to carboxylic carbohydrates by oxidation with molecular oxygen, using a nitrogen oxide such as a nitrite salt, as a catalyst. The reaction is advantageously carried out in a dehydrating solvent such as concentrated phosphoric acid.
